The Anchor of Hope

Written By: Matt Edens
"Faith goes up the stairs that Love has built and looks out the windows which Hope has opened" - Charles Spurgeon
I don't know about you, but as we move full-steam ahead with the Hope for Everyone movement at Victory, I've felt my heart really begin to contemplate more and more what it means to hope. What it means to make space for and live out hope for those God puts in my life, what it means to be the answer to someone's prayer... what it means to be a part of a movement of God. Maybe you are asking these same questions as well?
Hope can mean a lot of things to a lot of different people. We've seen it used in political campaigns, proclaimed through wedding vows, we've seen the lack of it used to describe depression, sadness and pain. We've used it in parenting to dream of our children's future. Hope brings life and it is a very foundation of our faith!
Hope is more than a feeling—it is the confident expectation that God is who He says He is and will do what He has promised! In a world that often feels heavy, confusing, or disappointing, Jesus stands as the unwavering hope for every person, in every circumstance, across every generation... an anchor in our roughest waters. The enemy wants nothing more that to steal your hope, your joy and your trust that God is with you! Just like Aaron held up Moses' arms during the battle against the Amelekites in Exodus, so the promises of God do for us in our life's battles.
"I'm fighting a battle, You've already won, no matter what comes my way, I will overcome. Don't know what you're doing, but I know what you've done. I'm fighting a battle You've already won!" -You've Already Won by Shane & Shane
The lyrics to this song get me every time. How beautiful is the thought, the knowledge, the HOPE that God goes before us! That yes we are fighting battles and many times those burdens are heavier that we could ever imagine... but that our battles have already been won, that we aren't alone in these fights. That, my friends, is Hope for Everyone!
Jesus: Our Unshakeable Hope
The Bible reminds us again and again that hope isn’t found in circumstances—it's found in Christ and Christ alone
“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” — Hebrews 6:19
Just like an anchor keeps a ship steady in the storm, Jesus holds us steady through the storms of life. His presence, promises, and sacrifice give us a hope that cannot be taken away!
“In His name the nations will put their hope.” — Matthew 12:21
This verse isn’t just poetic—it’s prophetic. Jesus is not simply hope for one group, one culture, or one type of person. He is the hope for everyone. Rich or poor, joyful or broken, steady or struggling—Jesus welcomes all and lifts all.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him.” — Romans 15:13
When we place our trust in Jesus, hope is not just something we receive—it’s something that fills and transforms us!
I challenge you this week to ask God for the hope that only he can give, to ask him ways that you can not only be filled with his hope, love and grace but that He will put people in your life that you can show that hope to freely! That He will give you opportunities to be the answer to someone's prayer!
Love and Hope to you all, have a wonderful week!
