Let's ROLL

On September 10, 2001, Todd Beamer and his pregnant wife had just returned from a 5-day trip he’d won! Todd’s job required him to travel 4 times per month and the day after their vacation was one of those times. He normally would have left the night before, so he didn’t have to catch such an early flight the day of his meeting, but he decided to stay home with his wife that night and catch the early flight from Newark, NJ to San Francisco, CA for that one-day business trip. Todd never made it to California that morning because of the events of September 11. Most of us have heard at least a little bit of his story, but this ordinary man saved untold number of lives that day when he rallied some other passengers and together, they planned to storm the cockpit and try to stop those who had taken over the plane.

Todd Beamer was unquestionably a hero!! He was not trained to take down terrorists. He had not served in the military or gone to any kind of combat training. He was a business executive living an ordinary life with a wife he adored, 2 small boys and a daughter on the way whom he’d never get to meet.

But Todd was a man of strong faith and action! I believe that his faith in God played a huge part in his selfless act of courage. The emergency operator who stayed on the line with him the entire time said he was calm throughout the event. It seems to me that God chose Todd that day and Todd said, "I’m your man!”

On Sunday Josh asked the question “what if God was asking you to move and you missed it?” What if it was the Spirit of God who moved Todd Beamer into action that morning? What if he had ignored the Spirit? Even though many lives were lost that day, so many more would have been lost without Todd’s obedience.

Hopefully God isn’t asking any one of us to take down terrorists and go to our death along with them, but He asks things of us every single day and many times we push the prompting from Him away! Josh said, “every move of God begins with a move of faith.” Is He asking YOU to move?

I volunteer at the Connection Desk 1-2 times per month, and I get to meet with people who are coming to Victory for the very first time. I can’t help but look at the church I’M so familiar with through the eyes of someone who is NOT.

Were they able to get a good parking place? Were they greeted with friendly faces when they walked through the doors? Did they have any problems checking themselves or their children in? When they got to their children’s classrooms, were they greeted by Gamechangers who seemed confident and able to care for and teach their children? Were the classrooms fully staffed? When they received their gift card to the Café were they able

to take advantage of that gift because the Café was fully staffed? Was there a seat easily available for them? Was everything in place to make their experience one that made them want more of what Victory has to offer, which is JESUS!

There is no question that God is moving and growing VCC. With growth will come many new opportunities to serve like Jesus!

Do you want to be like Jesus or are you comfortable just being you? In Mark 10:45 Jesus gives us the model for serving. “For even the son of man came not to be served but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many.”

I KNOW God is calling you to something. Just move and take action! You don’t have to say yes to something that He isn’t gifting you to do, but move where He is leading you! He sees you and he knows your strengths and he is DEFINTELY calling you.

When God called Isaiah, he said “Here am I, send me.”

When God called David, he ran into battle.

When God called Jonah, he ran away. He got swallowed by a fish.

Don’t get swallowed by a fish…
