Go Like God Sent You

I have always loved the story of Moses. Even as kid, I was mesmerized by the stories of him floating down the river in a basket, encountering the burning bush, and of course, leading the people through the parted Red Sea. Theses stories inspired me, and grew my faith. I still look back at the story of Moses for encouragement in the midst of a difficult situation. His account never fails to remind me of faithfulness and supreme sovereignty of God.

What speaks to me most about Moses is his relatability. Here is a man who heard from God directly, and yet, he doubted God’s divine plan for him. Here is the God of Creation, the One who’s spirit hovered over the waters and spoke light into existence, speaking to a mere man. Despite the miracle of this, Moses still questions God.

Now when the Lord spoke to Moses in Egypt, he said to him, I am the Lord. Tell Pharaoh king of Egypt everything I tell you.” But Moses said to the Lord, “since I speak with faltering lips, why would Pharaoh listen to me?” Exodus 6:28-30 NIV

I think the temptation here is to think we are somehow different than Moses. God spoke directly to Moses, and the inclination is to think that would simply be enough to wipe away any doubt or unbelief. Think about it, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob spoke to you-what more proof do you need?

If we were honest with ourselves, we would acknowledge that we have more in common with Moses than we think. If you take a closer look at the movie reel of your life, you will see all the times God directed you to move or speak in His name. How many times did He tell you to go invite your neighbor to church? How many times did you have that sudden urge to speak to a stranger and offer to pray with them? How about that job change He called you to, or that job He called you away from?

How many times have you felt the conviction of the Holy Spirit to make a move, but you ignored it, justifying it due to your own fear, anxiety, or lack of ability?

God may not call us everyday to speak to a pharaoh, but He will call us to speak to somebody. The same God that spoke to Moses, who promised to go with Moses and give Moses the words to speak (Exodus 4:12) will do the same for you. So, friend, wherever the Lord has sent you, go in there like God sent you. Your obedience may just open the door for breakthrough.
